We are seeking a Head of Compliance Operations for our client, ideally based in Amsterdam or London.

Scope

• Lead our Compliance Operations team to ensure the exclusion of bad actors and the inclusion of legitimate users, efficiently, effectively, and with a user-first mindset.
• Oversee all aspects of Compliance Operations, including AML, EDD, Account Restrictions (Guardianship, Garnishments, Bankruptcy), and Regulatory Reporting.
• Design and implement an AI-first approach to Compliance Ops, leading with an engineering mindset: structurally solve problems, automate processes, and reduce manual tasks.
• Question legal requirements proactively: “Where in the law does it say that?”
• Act as the escalation point for complex or sensitive cases.
• Prioritize the user experience relentlessly.

Profile

• 13+ years of experience in compliance, fraud prevention, AML, MLRO, Financial Regulation, SARs, or financial crime operations, preferably within fintech, payments, or challenger banking.
• Experience building and leading operations teams across multiple functions or jurisdictions.
• Proven ability to scale operations and rebuild systems, not just maintain them.
• Strong knowledge of the law, capable of questioning policies and developing smarter ones.
• Enjoys fast-paced environments and problem-solving, with a proactive attitude.
• Effective people manager, clear communicator, and high performer.
• Resilient under pressure, experienced with regulators (AFM, DNB, FCA, etc.), and able to bridge operations and legal teams.
• Previous experience in scale-up or high-growth environments.
• Motivated by implementing AI solutions.
