An exciting full-time, permanent position for a Design Engineer has opened with a specialist civils contractor that was originally founded over 40 years ago, operating across the utility contracting and civil engineering sectors.

This vacancy offers a great opportunity for an experienced design professional to join a successful and growing business and take on an influential role.

Our client is offering a competitive package, circa £60,000 - £80,000, including 25 days leave + bank holidays, pension scheme, company car/car allowance, and more.

Candidate Experience

• Proficient in SSEN industry standard electrical design.
• Experience with CAD software is preferable.
• Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Chartered Engineer status or actively working towards it.
• Proven experience in designing DNO energy-related electrical systems.
• Strong knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and compliance requirements.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
• Understanding of DNOs HV & LV networks.
• Lead design and engineering projects from feasibility to commissioning.
• Develop and manage electrical designs, ensuring compliance with standards and regulations.
• Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and oversee jointing engineers' work.
• Engage with clients and stakeholders to meet project requirements.
• Ensure quality assurance, risk management, and safety standards are maintained throughout the project lifecycle.

Candidate Knowledge & Understanding

• Construction, installation, and commissioning of primary substations.
• Switchgear, transformers, and plant installation and commissioning.
• Cable installation & connections for HV/LV multi-core & power cables, including laying, pulling, jointing, and terminating.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills at all organizational levels.
• Ability to work under pressure and make critical decisions.
• Essential electrical engineering experience.
