Job Title: Environmental Health Officer

Location: Queens Road 1, Southwark, SE15 2TJ

Contract Type: Temporary

Hours: 36 hours per week

Start Date: 16 June 2025

End Date: 8 September 2025

Working Hours: 9 AM to 5 PM

Pay Rate: £30.39 per hour (umbrella)

Working Pattern: Remote working

Role Overview

Southwark Council is recruiting an Environmental Health Officer to support increased workload in the Environmental Services team. This role involves ensuring applications are correctly received and assessed, particularly for housing-related licenses and compliance. You will assess floorplans to verify means of escape, check fire safety measures, and apply the Council's standards for Houses in Multiple Occupation to determine suitable property occupancy.

Responsibilities

1. Verify that the correct application type has been received.
2. Assess floorplans to determine if means of escape are suitable for the proposed property use.
3. Check that appropriate fire safety measures have been implemented.
4. Ensure all necessary information and interested parties' details are included in applications.
5. Apply the Council's HMO standards where relevant to determine occupancy suitability.
6. Process license applications efficiently and accurately.

Essential Skills and Experience

• Experience in environmental health or related housing enforcement roles.
• Ability to assess property plans and understand fire safety requirements.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to process documentation accurately.
• Good communication and organisational skills.

Additional Information

The role offers remote working flexibility. The contract runs from June 16th to September 8th, 2025. Occasional office visits are expected at Queens Road 1, Southwark, SE15 2TJ.
