Lead Technical Architect

We are the Information Intelligence Group (IIG) of CACI UK, a specialist technical consultancy providing bespoke solutions to solve complex operational problems. Due to growth within our Central Government business, we are seeking an experienced Technical Architect.

Role Location:

You may work from any of our UK offices or from home, with regular visits to London.

About the Role:

We seek a skilled Lead Technical Architect with cloud expertise to design, implement, and oversee cloud infrastructure solutions for mission-critical systems, focusing on security and scalability using AWS, Kubernetes, Kafka, microservices, Java, and event-driven design.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Cloud Architecture Design: Lead design of cloud systems using AWS, microservices, event-driven architectures, and serverless computing.
  2. Cloud Security: Develop secure architectures ensuring data protection and compliance (AWS IAM, encryption, VPC, monitoring).
  3. Containerisation & Orchestration: Architect Kubernetes environments for high availability and scalability.
  4. Event-Driven Systems: Lead Kafka-based messaging frameworks for real-time data processing.
  5. Microservices Architecture: Design and oversee microservices development, focusing on Java backend systems.
  6. Technical Leadership: Mentor teams and guide complex technical decisions.
  7. Security & Compliance: Ensure architectures meet GDPR, HIPAA, and security policies.
  8. CI/CD & Automation: Promote pipelines, infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation), and automation.
  9. Collaboration: Work with DevOps, engineering, product management, and stakeholders.
  10. Performance & Cost Optimization: Drive efficiency and cloud spend reduction strategies.
  11. Risk Management: Identify and mitigate technical risks.
  12. Documentation & Standards: Maintain architectural documentation and best practices.
The Fit:

Ideal candidates will have experience in large-scale cloud systems, especially AWS, with skills in:

  • Cloud security architecture (IAM, encryption)
  • Containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Event-driven architectures (Kafka)
  • Java-based microservices
  • CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation)
  • Monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack)
  • Serverless architectures (AWS Lambda)
  • Relevant AWS certifications (Solutions Architect, Security – Specialty)
  • Understanding of TOGAF architectural standards

Applicants must be British citizens, have lived in the UK for the past 5 years, and be eligible for high-level security clearance.
