Job Description:

Witherby Publishing Group is a specialist publisher of marine training, reference and regulatory material for the shipping industry, including key safety titles for shipping within the oil & gas sector.

We are looking for an Environmental Research Assistant to join our busy technical team on a full time basis for a period of 12 months, working directly with our Senior Environmental Editor.

Responsibilities:

  • Utilising multiple resources for research purposes – Non-Government Organisations, system manufacturers and other scientific technical resources
  • Identifying, consolidating and summarising key research findings relevant to the shipping industry and sharing these within the technical team
  • Assisting the Senior Environmental Editor with creating and updating publications
  • Working closely with the Senior Environmental Editor to meet deadlines in a timely manner
  • Assisting with planning and coordination of research projects
  • Any other activities that the Company requires.

Required Skills and Knowledge:

  • PhD or master’s degree (distinction grade), preferably in a science, geography or environmental related field
  • Ability to assess and determine relevant information for research projects
  • Ability to understand complicated subject work - maritime and environmental
  • Competent in understanding fine detail of research material whilst being able to view its relevance to the overall scope of the work
  • Exceptional listening, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines efficiently.

  • Curious and creative mindset with a tenacious attitude towards research
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Have a pragmatic approach towards environmental research
  • Collaborative working with the technical team and other staff members across the business
  • Flexible, hard-working and keen to expand knowledge outside of qualification field

Salary and Conditions:

• Salary is £30,000 per annum

• This is an office-based role

• Normal place of work is Livingston, but there may be some travel UK and Europe wide

• You will report to the Senior Environmental Editor

• Company wellbeing plan and pension.
