Fantastic Opportunity with a Global Coatings Manufacturing Company

Develop new polymer technology, formulate and test coatings for customers, and support scale-up into production. This role requires several years of experience in an industrial laboratory focused on paints, coatings, inks, adhesives, or polymer technology. You will be a key member of an international R&D team where communication, motivation, and enthusiasm are essential for success.

Key Tasks

1. Design and Development: Creating new coating materials.
2. Formulation Work: Preparing multiple samples to evaluate effects of formulation variations.
3. Property Examination: Assessing physical, chemical, and electrical resistance properties of coatings.
4. Performance Testing: Testing new raw materials for usefulness in formulations.
5. Coating Application: Using Automated Selective Coating equipment to coat test specimens and evaluate performance in environmental tests.
6. Customer Visits: Visiting client sites to trial developmental materials.

Responsibilities within Cross-Department Projects

1. Develop and validate new manufacturing processes.
2. Scale-up of newly developed products.
3. Implement improvements to reduce manufacturing costs.
4. Validate alternative sources for current materials.
5. Test performance of existing and new coating products to support customer material qualifications.
6. Assist Technical Support team with technical enquiries.
7. Contribute to QA processes.
8. Own all stages of new product introduction.
9. Prepare customer technical reports and datasheets.
10. Manage collaborations with other departmental teams.

Candidate Profile

1. BSc or PhD in Chemistry or Material Science.
2. Experience in manufacturing or testing advanced chemical products such as coatings, adhesives, or paints is advantageous but not essential.
3. Good understanding and experience with laboratory test methods.
4. Experience with viscosity, rheology, FTIR, and related laboratory instruments is advantageous.
5. Must possess a keen eye for detail.
6. Organized, methodical, and able to prioritize tasks.
7. Experience working in a project team environment.
8. Must have the right to work in the UK; sponsorship is not available.
