Job summary

Remedy Education is seeking a confident SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEND provision in a mainstream primary school in Barking Riverside. You will support a mixed Year 1 and Year 2 class, assisting children with complex needs, including pre-verbal pupils, throughout the school day.

The role requires a proactive, patient and resilient approach in a busy, active classroom, with intimate personal care support and close collaboration with staff to create a positive learning environment.

Qualifications

• Strong, practical experience working with children with complex SEND needs.
• Experience supporting pre-verbal or non-verbal pupils.

Responsibilities

• Support KS1 pupils with complex SEND needs on a 1:1 and small-group basis.
• Work closely with pre-verbal children, supporting communication and engagement.
• Assist with intimate and personal care, including toileting and changing.
• Manage challenging behaviours calmly and confidently.
• Encourage independence, social interaction and emotional regulation.
• Support pupils with practical, sensory and play-based learning activities.
• Work collaboratively with teaching staff to maintain a positive learning environment.
