Job summary

Protocol Education Ltd in Barnsley is seeking Secondary Teaching Assistants to support pupils aged 11 to 16 with day-to-day supply and long-term placements in secondary schools, offering flexible hours and both full-time or part-time work.

You will collaborate with teachers and support staff to help students engage, stay safe, and reach their potential. The role offers weekly PAYE pay, competitive day rates (£92.63–£100), and access to CPD training through our online Academy.

Qualifications

Experience working with children or young people in schools, youth work, coaching, mentoring, care, or similar settings.
Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
Positive, reliable and adaptable approach.
Genuine passion for supporting young people and making a difference in education.
Previous classroom experience is desirable but not essential.

Responsibilities

Supporting students aged 11 to 16 in lessons, small group interventions, or 1:1 support.
Encouraging engagement, confidence, and positive behaviour in the classroom.
Working closely with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams to support progress.
Assisting pupils with additional learning, behavioural, or emotional needs.
Contributing to a safe, inclusive learning environment where every student can succeed.
