Job summary

Emtec Building Services is seeking an experienced Mechanical Estimator to own estimating from early design through tender submission within our pre‑construction team. You’ll work with pre‑construction, commercial and delivery teams to produce accurate cost estimates and support bid activity across Glasgow, Edinburgh or Dundee.

You’ll bring proven experience in M&E cost estimation, robust data libraries and strong tendering skills to help convert opportunities into live projects while upholding

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a similar Mechanical Estimator role within an M&E / Building Services environment.
• Strong ability to produce accurate and detailed mechanical services cost estimates.
• Confident reading and interpreting construction drawings, specifications, and schedules.
• Solid knowledge of mechanical installations and construction methods.
• Experience evaluating subcontractor and supplier bids.
• Skilled in producing project budgets, cost plans, and tender breakdowns.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and estimating software (e.g. Trimble or similar).

Responsibilities

• Support the approvals process and ensure all estimates align with company procedures.
• Prepare detailed, analytical mechanical cost estimates within agreed timescales.
• Identify and assess risks across bids.
• Ensure tenders are reviewed by Estimating Lead or Directors.
• Develop and maintain a robust library of estimating outputs and pricing data.
• Assist with bid preparation across the wider business when required.
• Act as Bid Manager on tenders, depending on value and complexity.
• Lead and contribute to preparation and submission of estimates and tenders.
• Apply technical expertise to deliver accurate, high‑quality submissions.
• Bring forward ideas and solutions to support business development.
