Job summary

CBS Butler seeks an experienced Senior Data Engineer for a DV-cleared role in the UK Defence/MOD sector. Hybrid work around Bristol/Wiltshire, with 50% MOD site presence. Contract initially 3 months, likely extending to 12 months, and with a condensed 3/5 week option.

Qualifications

• Commercial data engineering experience in project or production environments.
• Strong Python and SQL skills.
• Hands-on with Apache NiFi and data pipeline orchestration.
• Data modelling and schema design.
• Parquet and S3-compatible object storage.
• REST API integration and OpenShift/Kubernetes experience.
• GitLab CI/CD and automated build, test and deployment pipelines.
• Developing data contracts or Interface Control Documents (ICDs).
• Data validation, metadata management and lineage.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain secure, scalable data solutions across the full data lifecycle.
• Collaborate with Data Scientists, Analysts, DevOps, Cyber Consultants and stakeholders.
• Develop data ingestion and transformation pipelines using Python, SQL and NiFi.
• Design data models, schemas and ICDs.
• Integrate data from REST APIs and other sources.
• Work with Parquet and S3-compatible storage.
• Implement data validation, assurance, metadata management and data lineage.
• Develop automation and data-driven tools to support customer requirements.
• Contribute to technical decisions and investigate emerging technologies.
• Work with stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver solutions.
