Job summary

Freedom Leisure in Guildford is seeking a dedicated Duty Officer to join our busy leisure pool team. You will lead Lifeguards, ensure excellent customer service, and help maintain a safe, welcoming environment for our members and visitors.

You will manage day-to-day operations, from opening/closing and pool testing to incident response, with training and development supported as part of our strong workforce. This role offers progression and a supportive culture.

Qualifications

• RLSS National Pool Lifeguard Qualification desirable, training can be provided.
• Experience in leading a team and delivering high service standards.
• Ability to manage incidents calmly and effectively.

We are looking for a Duty Officer, to join our friendly and professional team. Working with the Pools Manager & Pools Operations Manager as well as Duty Managers, ensuring performance potential is optimised and all work is carried out to the highest standard and leading the team of Lifeguards at the busy leisure pool.

You will be responsible as a Duty Officer for the day to day running of the leisure centre to the highest standard and will be offered the full opportunity to develop all the skills required for a Duty Manager. We are looking for someone who has excellent communication skills, and ideally has experience of working in a leisure environment, but more importantly, someone who has passion and drive, and is able to think on their feet, keep calm under pressure and able to deal with people from all walks of life.

You will be responsible for the operational management and supervision of the pool facility during your shift. This includes opening/closing procedures, pool tests, ensuring health & safety compliance, supervising staff (Lifeguards) managing customer service, cleaning, rigging/derigging of sports equipment and assisting with incidents as required. You will be working in a Team of Duty Officers to provide the best possible service to our customers and lead the team in day to day tasks.

Hours: 32 hours per week, Monday - Sunday (rota basis)

• RLSS National Pool Lifeguard Qualification desirable however training can be provided.


• To actively manage and develop and motivate a team of operational staff.


• To be responsible for the day to day duty management and running of the leisure centre to the highest standard.


• To contribute to and understand the business and budgetary performance of the centre.


• To be a proactive member of the leisure centre team.


• A passion for the industry demonstrated through continuous professional development.


• Experience of problem solving, customer service and staff management.


• Experience working in a Duty Management or similar role.


• To be able to work flexibly with a level of autonomy and decision making confidence.


• Able to think on your feet and respond to variable demands.
