Job description

Duty Manager – Shelter Hall Brighton

Welcome to Shelter Hall, Brighton's iconic seafront food hall, where incredible food, great drinks and festival energy come together every single day.

With 7 incredible kitchens, 2 buzzing bars, 2 vibrant floors and stunning outdoor terraces overlooking the sea, Shelter Hall brings together some of the best independent food talent Sussex has to offer. Think amazing street food, cocktails flowing, music playing and a venue full of people having a great time. From sunny afternoons on the terrace to packed weekends and unforgettable events, no two shifts are ever the same. Our guests order through our app, and our floor team brings everything straight to their table. It's fast-paced, full of personality and all about creating those moments that make people want to come back.

And behind all that energy? An incredible team making it happen. That's where you come in!

The Role – Duty Manager

We're looking for a Duty Manager who loves hospitality, thrives on the buzz of a busy venue and knows how to bring the best out of their team. You'll be right in the middle of the action, leading shifts, keeping the energy high and making sure everything runs smoothly, even when the venue is absolutely buzzing. One minute you'll be supporting the bar through a busy service, the next you'll be helping a guest, coaching a team member or working with our independent food traders to keep everything flowing.

You'll be a leader on the floor, setting the pace, leading by example and making sure every guest leaves with a reason to come back. We don't just want someone who can run a shift.

We want someone who can create an atmosphere, inspire a team and bring our festival spirit to life.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Owning the shift: Taking charge as Manager on Duty and keeping our bars, floor and guest experience running smoothly.
  • Bringing the festival energy: Creating a fun, welcoming atmosphere where every guest feels part of something special.
  • Leading from the front: Supporting, motivating and coaching your team to deliver brilliant hospitality.
  • Keeping things moving: Managing service flow, busy periods and the unexpected with confidence.
  • Making every guest count: Handling questions, feedback and complaints while turning challenges into positive experiences.
  • Working together: Building great relationships with our independent food traders, bar teams and venue management.
  • Getting the details right: Completing operational checks, maintaining standards and keeping the venue looking its best.
  • Keeping everyone safe: Ensuring Food Safety, Health & Safety and licensing standards are followed.
  • Thinking commercially: Supporting labour management, controlling costs and helping the venue deliver great results.
  • Living our PEAK values: Bringing Passion, Entrepreneurial thinking, Adaptability and Kindness to every shift.
What We're Looking For

We're not looking for someone who just ticks boxes. We're looking for someone who brings personality, passion and a genuine love of hospitality.

You’ll be someone who:

  • Loves the buzz of a busy, high-energy hospitality venue.
  • Has previous supervisory or management experience and knows how to lead a team.
  • Is passionate about brilliant food, great drinks and unforgettable guest experiences.
  • Leads from the front and isn't afraid to get stuck in.
  • Can think on their feet, solve problems and make confident decisions.
  • Keeps their cool when things get busy.
  • Communicates brilliantly and knows how to bring people together.
  • Wants to grow, develop others and be part of something exciting.

Most importantly, you'll understand that great hospitality isn't just about serving food and drinks. It's about how we make people feel.

What You'll Get
  • 48-hour salaried contract
  • Base salary of £12.71 per hour plus Tronc (estimated £6,000 per year)
  • Real opportunities to grow and develop within an expanding hospitality group
  • The chance to work at one of Brighton's most iconic seafront venues
  • A fun, energetic working environment where no two days are the same
  • A supportive team that works hard, has fun and looks out for each other
  • Staff perks and discounts across Market Halls/ Shelter Hall
