Job summary

Fortel is seeking an experienced Groundworker to join our on-site civil/construction operations. You will handle general groundworks, assist with digging and foundation prep, and operate site plant as needed to support project teams.

The role requires valid CSCS (Green Skilled Worker) card and relevant plant tickets; manual handling training is preferred. You will work closely with site crews to ensure safe, efficient operations on a range of projects.

Qualifications

• Experience in groundworks on civil/construction projects.
• CSCS Green Skilled Worker card or verified equivalent.
• Manual handling competency on site.

Responsibilities

• Perform site groundworks, trenching and foundation prep.
• Operate dumper and ride-on roller safely when required.

Job description:

We are currently looking for an experienced Groundworker with Dumper & Roller tickets to join our growing team on a variety of civil engineering and construction projects. This is a hands-on role for someone who is confident carrying out general groundworks while also operating site plant when required.

Key Responsibilities

• Site Preparation & Groundworks: Execute deep excavation support, trenching, and ground preparation for foundations, retaining structures, and structural slabs.
• Underground Services & Drainage: Lay vitrified clay, concrete, and plastic drainage pipework. Install deep drainage runs, attenuation tanks, ductwork for utilities, and access manholes.
• Concreting & Formwork: Assist with setting out, pouring, levelling, and finishing concrete for foundations, ground slabs, and thrust blocks. Help build basic timber shuttering and place steel reinforcement mesh.
• Levelling & Compaction: Read site plans to ensure correct gradients and falls. Operate vibrating rollers, rammers, and compaction plates to achieve specified engineering densities.
• Operating Forward Tipping Dumper and Ride-on Roller safely and efficiently
• Assisting site teams and machine operators as required

Required Skills & Qualifications

• CSCS Card: Valid Green Skilled Worker CSCS Card is highly preferred. Green Labourer cards with proven experience will be considered.
• Manual Handling: Valid, accredited training certificate in Manual Handling to demonstrate safe lifting, moving, and handling techniques on site.
• Plant Tickets (Desirable): CPCS/NPORS tickets for Forward Tipping Dumper, Ride-on Roller
