Job summary

Cover People are working with a well-established secondary school in the Glossop area to recruit a reliable and skilled Design & Technology (DT) Technician for long-term sickness cover.

The role focuses on providing practical and technical support to the Design & Technology department, helping lessons run safely and effectively, with responsibilities including prep, demonstrations, and workshop maintenance.

Qualifications

• Experience as a DT Technician or similar practical role.
• Strong understanding of Design & Technology workshop environments.
• Confident with tools, machinery, materials and practical equipment.
• Good organisational and time-management skills.
• Knowledge of health and safety requirements.
• Ability to work independently while supporting teaching staff.
• Professional, reliable and proactive approach.
• Interest in supporting young people within an educational environment.
• School experience desirable but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and organise materials, tools, and equipment for DT lessons.
• Support teachers with practical demonstrations and classroom activities.
• Maintain and organise workshops, equipment, and resources.
• Ensure tools and machinery are safe, maintained, and ready for use.
• Support students during practical activities where appropriate.
• Assist with the preparation of projects and practical coursework.
• Follow appropriate health and safety procedures at all times.
• Help maintain a clean, safe, and well-organised workshop environment.
