Job summary

Responsibilities

• Carry out routine checks and basic maintenance of equipment.
• Ensure machinery and tools are used and stored safely.
• Support teachers during practical DT lessons when required.

Are you looking for a long-term DT Technician position within a large, well-established secondary school in North London?

TeacherActive is currently seeking a practical, organised and experienced Design & Technology Technician to join a large secondary school in Tottenham, North London, starting ASAP.

The school is a large and diverse secondary setting with a strong focus on academic achievement, high expectations and providing pupils with access to a broad and engaging curriculum. The successful candidate will join an established Design & Technology department, supporting teachers and pupils with the delivery of practical DT lessons.

As a DT Technician, you will play an important role in ensuring workshops, classrooms, machinery, tools and materials are prepared and maintained to a high standard. You will work closely with teaching staff to ensure practical lessons can be delivered safely and effectively.

You will be responsible for preparing materials and equipment for lessons, maintaining machinery, managing stock and ensuring the DT department remains safe, organised and ready for teaching.

The successful DT Technician will have:

• Previous experience within a DT department, school workshop, engineering environment or similar practical setting
• Confidence using laser cutters, pillar drills and bandsaws
• Experience using a range of hand tools, power tools and workshop machinery
• A good understanding of workshop health and safety
• The ability to carry out basic maintenance and equipment checks
• Strong organisational and time-management skills
• The ability to prepare materials and resources for practical lessons
• Confidence working independently and alongside teaching staff
• A practical and proactive approach to problem solving
• Good communication and teamwork skills
• A professional and reliable approach
• An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one
• The right to work in the UK

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare tools, materials and equipment for DT lessons

• Ensure machinery and tools are used and stored safely
• Support teachers during practical DT lessons where required
• Maintain stock levels and organise materials

• Keep workshops and preparation areas clean, safe and organised
• Follow relevant health and safety procedures
• Support pupils and staff with practical projects
• Work closely with the wider Design & Technology department
• Ensure a safe working environment for pupils and staff

Please note

• This is a full-time, long-term position
• Pay is £120–£150 per day, depending on experience
• The role is based in Tottenham, North London
• Previous school-based DT Technician experience is highly desirable
• Candidates from engineering, manufacturing or workshop backgrounds with transferable skills will also be considered
• Experience with laser cutters, pillar drills and bandsaws is highly desirable
• An immediate start is available for the right candidate
