Job summary

Thiess is seeking a Drill & Blast Engineer to join the Mount Pleasant operation near Singleton, Newcastle. You will design and load drill and blast programs, coordinating with the mine planning team to deliver designs and schedules that support the mine plan, and manage explosives orders on site.

Collaboration with the drill and blast crew, a drive for continuous improvement, and strict adherence to safety practices are essential as you contribute to high-quality outcomes on site.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Mining or Civil Engineering.
• Minimum 2 years’ site experience in an operational mining engineering capacity (open cut preferred).
• Experience with Blast Logic, Vulcan or similar software.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a small team environment.
• Commitment to health and safety best practices.

Responsibilities

• Loading and tie up design – product selection to maximise fragmentation.
• Weekly drill and blast schedules.
• Explosives ordering.
• Blast reconciliations post blast and communication of results.
• Integrated approach and collaboration with planners to maximise coal flow.
• Communicate any changes to plans across the wider team.
• Develop strong working relationships with drill and blast team.
• Look for opportunities for continuous improvement of the drill and blast processes onsite.
• Follow safety procedures and promote a safe work environment at all times.
