Job summary

Kier Group is seeking a Drainage Operative to join Kier Transportation in Northamptonshire. The role is full‑time, 45 hours per week, based in Brixworth, Northampton, with a salary of £31,636.80 plus overtime and call out, and benefits including a matched pension and 24/7 virtual GP service.

You will drive and operate a gully truck, maintain highway drainage, use high‑pressure jetting equipment, record works and support emergency response.

Qualifications

• Experience operating high-pressure jetting equipment or similar vehicles.
• Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Good communication with team and the public; able to follow safety procedures.
• Holds a UK Driving Licence and a Class 2 HGV licence.

Responsibilities

• Drive and operate a gully truck to carry out scheduled and reactive drainage maintenance.
• Clean and maintain highway drainage systems including gully pots, channels, culverts and interceptors.
• Use high-pressure jetting to clear blockages and ensure free-flowing drainage.
• Record completed works using handheld devices.
• Support emergency response operations during adverse weather or flooding events.

Location: Brixworth, Northampton

Hours: Permanent, full time of 45 hours per week, Monday to Friday 06:00 to 15:30

Salary: £31,636.80 + overtime + call out

What will you be responsible for?

As a Drainage Operative, you'll be working within the Kier Transportation team, supporting them in maintaining a safe and operational highway drainage system.

Your day to day will include:

• Driving and operating a gully truck to carry out scheduled and reactive drainage maintenance
• Cleaning and maintaining highway drainage systems including gully pots, ACO channels, culverts, and interceptors
• Using high-pressure jetting equipment to clear blockages and ensure free-flowing drainage
• Recording completed works using handheld devices
• Supporting emergency response operations during adverse weather or flooding events
