Job summary

Lanes Group PLC is recruiting Drainage Engineer Van Pack for the Southampton area as part of a major contract win with Southern Water. You will operate in two-person teams, cover the Millbrook Depot region, and work a 45‑hour week with on‑call flexibility.

Training, PPE and equipment are provided to uphold our high standards of safety and service. The role requires a full UK driving licence; experience with high‑pressure jetting is useful though not mandatory, with opportunities to progress

Qualifications

• Experience using High Pressure Jetting equipment is useful but not essential.
• Other drainage qualifications (NRSWA, Confined Spaces) are an advantage.
• You must have a full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Travel to residential sites in a van to power a high‑pressure water jet for restoration.
• Clean and maintain drainage systems.
• Record each job report on the specialist equipment provided.
• Run diagnostics and repairs on drains.
• Deliver good customer service.
• Maintain good H&S practices while carrying out works.
• Ensure vehicle stock is full and replenished.
• Utilise PPE and safe site setups protecting staff and public.
• Use VISTEC and Salesforce platforms.
• Be able to work unsupervised in all weather conditions.

We are thrilled to announce a major contract win with Southern Water! We are recruiting for a number of Drainage Engineers to work in 2 person teams, covering the whole of Southampton. This is a fantastic opportunity to start a new career with us here at Lanes Group!

Position: Van Pack Drainage Engineer

Location: Millbrook Depot (Southampton), once competent you will work from door to door.

Job Type: Permanent, full-time

Hours: Monday to Friday, 45 hours per week

Salary: OTE £35,000 (made up of basic pay and overtime)

About the role:

Due to continued growth and development, we are now looking for customer focused people to join us in our Utility Division, working on our Southern Water contract service to deliver real and effective solutions to waste-water network and drainage problems.

• Travelling to residential sites in a van you are responsible for, around the region powering a high-pressure water jet for restoration.
• Clean, clear and maintain drainage systems.
• Record each job report correctly on the specialist equipment provided.
• Run diagnostics and repairs on drains
• Delivering good customer service.
• Maintaining good H&S practise while carrying out works.
• Ensure vehicle stock is full and replenished.
• To comply with health and safety responsibilities i.e. PPE / safe site set ups protecting Lanes Group employees, the public and other road users.
• To be able to utilise VISTEC and Salesforce platforms.
• Ability to work unsupervised in all weather conditions utilising correct PPE, lone worker system, etc.
• Dynamically risk assess site access & working conditions depending on specific circumstances on arrival.
• Liaising with the client regarding progress and any updates.
• Provide support to your colleagues.
• To conduct thorough inspections of tools, equipment and plant before/after use.
• Report any defects or malfunctions in regards to training.
• Carry out risk assessments and have a mature approach to risk perception.
• Be aware of all Lanes Group policies and your responsibility towards them.
• Any other reasonable ad-hoc duties requested by management.
