Job summary

Metrol in the Greater Aberdeen Area is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design and develop mechanical components and assemblies for downhole wireless tools, ensuring performance in harsh subsea conditions.

You will create and update CAD models, perform mechanical analyses, support prototype builds, and participate in testing and validation, working with R&D and operations.

The role emphasizes manufacturability, safety, cost efficiency, and continuous improvement of engineering processes.

Qualifications

• Design and analyze mechanical systems and components for downhole tools.
• Proficient in machine design and CAD tools for modeling, drafting, and revision control.
• Experience in R&D: concept generation, prototyping, testing, and design iteration.
• Ability to support project management: scheduling, tracking, cross-functional coordination.
• Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Familiarity with oil/gas or subsea equipment is beneficial; knowledge of standards and FEM is a plus.
• Excellent communication, attention to detail and on-site teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies for downhole wireless tools.
• Create and update CAD models and drawings, and maintain revision control.
• Perform mechanical analyses and validate designs through testing.
• Support prototype builds and participate in testing activities.
• Collaborate with R&D, operations, and other teams to optimize designs for manufacturability, safety, and cost.
• Contribute to project planning, documentation, and continuous improvement of engineering processes.
