Job summary

Reed Specialist Recruitment in Aberdeen is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our engineering team. The role focuses on design and development of subsea cutting tooling, supporting a range of offshore projects.

You will deliver robust tooling solutions from concept through to manufacture and deployment, collaborating with manufacturing, project and offshore teams. Degree in Mechanical Engineering and subsea/offshore experience are preferred; SolidWorks is desirable.

Qualifications

• Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Experience in mechanical design, ideally within subsea, offshore, or oil & gas sectors.
• Proficient in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks experience desirable).
• Strong understanding of engineering principles, materials and manufacturing processes.
• Experience designing for harsh subsea environments is advantageous.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop subsea cutting tools and mechanical systems
• Produce detailed engineering drawings and models using CAD (SolidWorks desirable)
• Conduct design calculations, tolerance analysis, and material selection
• Support prototyping, testing, and validation of designs
• Work closely with manufacturing, project, and offshore teams
• Ensure designs meet industry standards and client specifications
• Contribute to continuous improvement and innovation within the engineering function
