Job summary

Bright Purple is recruiting an Electronics Reliability Engineer to join the Electronics R&D team in Aberdeen. The role focuses on component and circuit-board level reliability for downhole electronics that must endure years of harsh conditions, with little chance of repair.

The successful candidate will design qualification programmes, run accelerated life and high-temperature tests, and work with suppliers to mitigate obsolescence while ensuring parts meet stringent reliability standards.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electronic Engineering or closely related field.
• Experience in high-reliability sectors such as aerospace, defence, space, medical, nuclear, rail or downhole oil and gas.
• Experience with component selection, derating or qualification.
• Strong ability to analyse test data and write structured technical reports.
• Willingness to travel occasionally.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate electronic components for high-temperature, high-reliability downhole use.
• Design qualification programmes with sample sizes, stress tests, timescales and characterisation.
• Run accelerated life and high-temperature testing and assess fit-for-purpose.
• Source and qualify alternatives to mitigate obsolescence and lead-time risks.
• Identify root causes of component/PCB failures and suggest design or process changes.
• Collaborate with production and suppliers to strengthen PCB assembly reliability.
• Produce qualification and failure reports and maintain test data.
