Job description

Senior Electronics Engineer

Position: Senior Electronics Hardware Engineer

Role Type: Permanent, Full-Time

Location: Hampshire

Domain: High-Reliability Embedded Systems / Harsh-Environment Electronics

Role Overview

An exciting opportunity for a Senior Electronics Engineer to join a long-established, world-leading tech business specializing in critical electronic systems.

The organization designs and manufactures high-precision electronic systems used in extreme subsea environments, enabling precision measurement, long-range wireless telemetry, situational awareness, and high-integrity sensing in extreme operational environments. Their technologies support critical applications across offshore energy, marine environmental science, and naval defence.

This is a versatile, hands-on role spanning analogue/digital circuit design, embedded C/C++, and FPGA architectures. In addition to new product development, a major focus is taking technical ownership of existing systems and legacy/transferred technology, diagnosing system-level issues, resolving documentation gaps, and bringing complex designs up to robust manufacturing standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Multi-Domain Design: Develop, review, and refine analogue circuits, digital systems, embedded C/C++ firmware, and FPGA logic.
  • System Diagnostics & Fault-Finding: Troubleshoot complex issues across hardware, firmware, interface timing, and system-level data communications.
  • Technical Ownership: Take lead responsibility for existing designs, source code, and tech-transferred subsystems to ensure long-term maintainability.
  • Specialist Subsea Electronics Support: Investigate signal quality, noise performance, and timing integrity across precision sensor chains, wireless communications, and electro-optical interfaces.
  • Manufacturing & Test Optimization: Design and improve diagnostic tools, automated test fixtures, and verification procedures to support repeatable production.
Candidate Profile & Requirements
Essential
  • Degree: 2:1 or higher in Electronic Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Hardware Design: Deep expertise in analogue and digital electronics, with a focus on low-noise signal processing and low-power systems.
  • Embedded Software: Strong C/C++ skills, with proven ability to read, debug, and refactor code written by others.
  • FPGA Logic: Solid understanding of FPGA design, interface logic, timing constraints, and data handling.
  • Fault-Finding: Demonstrated troubleshooting ability using ADCs, precision timing circuits, clocks, and standard serial/communication protocols.
Desirable
  • Electro-Optics / High-Speed Interfaces: Exposure to free-space optical communications, optical transceivers, or high-bandwidth data links.
  • PCB Layout: PCB design and schematic capture using Altium Designer (DFM / DFT / signal integrity).
  • Scripting: Python proficiency for automated testing, diagnostics, or data processing.
  • Lifecycle Experience: Supporting products through verification, production readiness, and long-term maintenance.
What We Offer
  • Complex Technical Scope: Work across board-level analogue, high-speed digital logic, real-time firmware, and electro-optics.
  • High-Impact Work: Build mission-critical equipment operating in extreme deep-sea environments.
  • 100% Onshore: Purely lab/office-based engineering with no offshore training or offshore medical requirements.
