Job description

This post is a 12 Month Fixed Term / Secondment position. As per the Fixed Term Contacts Policy - Where individuals with continuous service within the NHS apply for fixed-term contract roles, PSD Scotland reserves the right to refuse any such appointment.

On 1 April 2026, NHS National Services Scotland (NSS) and NHS Education for Scotland (NES) became one national organisation, focused on continuity today and a stronger, more connected service for tomorrow.

As part of this transformation, NSS and NES have joined to form a new organisation: Public Services Delivery Scotland (PSD Scotland). This new organisation will play a pivotal role in supporting the renewal and ensuring the long-term sustainability of health and care services across Scotland.

About The Organisation

PSD Scotland unites expertise from NES and NSS in a way that will allow us to accelerate national programmes to support the NHS to deliver better care, now and in the future.

We support staff with education and training, provide the tools and data that improve services, and run vital national functions such as procurement, logistics and blood, tissue and cell services.

The Post

As a major division within the NHS National Services Scotland, the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS) plays a vital role not only in the health of the people of Scotland but also on an international scale - through our leading position in new product development, biomedical research and donor services. Our goal is to maintain the highest standards to patient care whilst remaining internationally competitive.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the multidisciplinary Donor Services Admin Office, following a hybrid working pattern of home and office working.

The Donor Services Support Officer (DSSO) is responsible for providing clerical and administration support in all areas of Donor Services, participating in the overall delivery of excellent service to donors and members of the public. The post-holder will be dealing directly with members of the public so good communication skills are essential.

The Candidate

Post-holder will work as part of a team to ensure essential information is accurately recorded and updated in a timely manner, good organisational skills and attention to detail are required for all aspects of the job.

Applications are invited from enthusiastic, motivated, flexible individuals keen to undertake this challenging and interesting post. Candidates must be educated to higher grade level or demonstrate equivalent experience. We are seeking an individual with a customer-focused approach, who is organised and adaptable. You must also possess excellent communication skills, have the ability to multitask and be able to work under pressure. A good to high working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages and good keyboard skills are essential. An understanding of Web based products is desirable. Knowledge of Donor Services and current systems within SNBTS is essential.

The successful candidate will be required to undergo a PVG Scheme check. Any candidate who have lived/worked overseas for more than 12 months in the preceding 5 years will also be required to provide a criminal record check from the appropriate overseas agency.

Location and Working Pattern

The role will be based in Aberdeen at Aberdeen & North-East Scotland Blood Donor Centre.

Currently hybrid working.

The role will be part-time, 23 hours per week, over 5 days per week.

It is a condition of this employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK and have entitlement to work in the UK for the post in which you will be employed.

PSD Scotland is a remote-friendly employer with colleagues based throughout Scotland. We support hybrid and office-based working arrangements where possible and welcome discussions about alternative working patterns during the application process.

Benefits

Our benefits package includes pension scheme, comprehensive range of work life balance policies, occupational health services, learning resource centres and discounted leisure, financial and shopping benefits. HR Benefits Brochure.
