Job description

On 1 April 2026, NHS National Services Scotland (NSS) and NHS Education for Scotland (NES) became one national organisation, focused on continuity today and a stronger, more connected service for tomorrow.

As part of this transformation, NSS and NES have joined to form a new organisation: Public Services Delivery Scotland (PSD Scotland). This new organisation will play a pivotal role in supporting the renewal and ensuring the long‑term sustainability of health and care services across Scotland.

About the Organisation

PSD Scotland unites expertise from NES and NSS in a way that will allow us to accelerate national programmes to support the NHS to deliver better care, now and in the future.

We support staff with education and training, provide the tools and data that improve services, and run vital national functions such as procurement, logistics and blood, tissue and cell services.

The Post

We offer comprehensive education and training for staff, supply the necessary tools and data to enhance service quality, and oversee essential national operations including procurement, logistics, and blood, tissue, and cell services.

We are looking for a donor carer driver to join our existing team of staff who provide a high standard of care to our donors. You should be educated to higher level, have experience of working in health care or other customer focussed environment, excellent keyboard skills written and oral communication skills.

The Candidate

You’ll enjoy a varied role which includes caring for donors throughout the blood donation process, loading/unloading and assembling our community session donation equipment. In addition to providing a high standard of care to our donors you would be expected to transport staff and equipment to sessions. Although based in Glasgow you must have a sound knowledge of the geography of the region as extensive travel throughout the region is required.

Applicants should note that Driving a PCV is a small only part of the role, the majority of weekly hours is made up by performing donor carer duties (undertaking venepuncture, assisting donor’s and performing collection duties).

A PCV or ‘D’ class licence allows the licence holder to drive a passenger‑caring vehicle over 16 seats. Applicants must also have recent experience of driving said class of vehicle.

The successful candidate must comply with the Mandatory Induction Standards for Healthcare Support Workers in Scotland 2009; and with the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers.

The successful candidate will be required to undergo a PVG Scheme. Any candidate who have lived/worked overseas for more than 12 months in the preceding 5 years will also be required to provide a criminal record check from the appropriate overseas agency.

Location and Working Pattern

This post is based at Athenaeum, 8 Nelson Mandela Place, Glasgow, G2 1BT.

The work pattern for this post is Monday to Sunday, 25 hours per week, part‑time. You must be flexible, and willing to work variable hours. Hours will include Sundays and regular late evenings.

PSD Scotland is a remote‑friendly employer with colleagues based throughout Scotland. We support hybrid and office‑based working arrangements where possible and welcome discussions about alternative working patterns during the application process.

It is a condition of this employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK and have entitlement to work in the UK for the post in which you will be employed.
