Job summary

Niyaa People Ltd on behalf of a large housing charity is recruiting a Domestic Abuse Support Team Leader for a new service in Manchester. You will lead a small team of Domestic Abuse Support Workers, work with the Supported Housing Manager, and ensure safeguarding and high‑quality provision.

Suitable candidates have strong knowledge of domestic abuse, safeguarding, risk management, and previous supervisory experience.

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge and experience of domestic abuse, safeguarding and risk management.
  • Experience supporting vulnerable adults and/or children with complex needs.
  • Previous experience supervising, mentoring or leading staff.
  • Confident completing and overseeing referrals, risk assessments, support assessments and individual support plans.
  • Experience working with Children’s Services, local authorities and other statutory and multi‑agency partners.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage and support a small team of Domestic Abuse Support Workers, providing day-to-day guidance, supervision and direction.
  • Work closely with the Supported Housing Manager to support the effective day-to-day running and development of the service.
  • Provide practical and emotional support to adults and children with complex needs, particularly those affected by domestic abuse.
  • Oversee referrals, assessments, risk assessments and support planning to ensure residents receive appropriate and timely interventions.
  • Ensure safeguarding concerns are identified, recorded, escalated and managed appropriately.
  • Support staff in managing complex cases, challenging situations and high-risk safeguarding concerns.
  • Work collaboratively with Children’s Services, local authorities, social workers, police and other statutory and voluntary partner agencies.
  • Monitor the quality of case notes, records, risk assessments and support plans, ensuring accurate and compliant documentation.
  • Support move‑ins, inductions, welfare checks and ongoing resident assessments.
  • Ensure staff promote independence, tenancy sustainment, personal safety and positive outcomes for residents.
  • Support residents with Housing Benefit, welfare‑related matters and access to relevant services.
  • Carry out regular property, room and welfare checks, ensuring health and safety standards and service requirements are maintained.
  • Monitor team performance, support staff development and identify training needs.
  • Contribute to team meetings, service reviews, audits and continuous improvement activities.
  • Support the Supported Housing Manager with operational duties, reporting, incident management and service development.
  • Participate in the on‑call rota and provide support and guidance during emergency situations when required.

Job description

We are recruiting on behalf of a large, established housing charity with services across the UK, who are expanding their provision in Manchester.

They are looking for an experienced Domestic Abuse Support Team Leader to join a new service supporting adults and children affected by domestic abuse, safeguarding concerns and complex support needs.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a strong background in domestic abuse and supported housing who is ready to take on a leadership role. You will manage a small team of support workers, provide guidance and oversight, and work closely with the Supported Housing Manager to ensure the delivery of a safe, effective and high-quality service.

You will play a key role in developing the new service, supporting staff, maintaining safeguarding standards and ensuring residents receive person-centred support that promotes safety, independence and long-term stability.

Key Responsibilities of a Domestic Abuse Support Team Leader

Candidate Requirements
  • Previous experience as a Domestic Abuse Support Worker, Senior Support Worker, Complex Needs Worker, Team Leader or in a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge and experience of domestic abuse, safeguarding and risk management.
  • Experience supporting vulnerable adults and/or children with complex needs.
  • Previous experience supervising, mentoring or leading staff, or the confidence and ability to step into a team leadership position.
  • Confident completing and overseeing referrals, risk assessments, support assessments and individual support plans.
  • Experience working with Children’s Services, local authorities and other statutory and multi‑agency partners.
  • Understanding of supported housing, tenancy sustainment, Housing Benefit and welfare‑related matters.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, support staff through challenging situations and maintain professional boundaries.
  • Strong communication, organisational and decision‑making skills, with the confidence to respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns and incidents.
  • A professional, resilient and compassionate approach, with the ability to lead by example and promote a positive team culture.
  • A Level 2 qualification or above in Health & Social Care, Supporting Adults/Children, Counselling, Domestic Abuse or a related field would be desirable.
  • Enhanced DBS or willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check.
  • Full UK driving licence – a company car and fuel card are provided.
