Job summary

Hudson River Trading (HRT) is a world‑class algo trading firm with a strong research backbone. You will help scale a high‑throughput research environment, focusing on user workloads, resource scheduling, and data caching to accelerate trader iteration times.

As a distributed compute engineer, you will work with quantitative traders and software engineers, set platform direction, and own infrastructure that supports cutting‑edge research in a fast‑paced environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• Strong C++ expertise (daily use preferred).
• Python familiarity preferred.
• Experience collaborating closely with quantitative researchers and traders to understand their needs.
• Great communication capabilities.
• Superior design, debugging, and problem solving skills.
• Knowledge of UNIX operating systems (we use Linux), system/processor performance, and network communication.

Responsibilities

• Ensure HRT’s research environment is best in class, focusing on user workloads.
• Maintain and improve resource scheduling, data caching, and job monitoring using in-house and open source solutions.
• Optimize workloads at the user level to speed up iteration speed.
• Tune workloads at the infrastructure level to improve resource efficiency.
• Share metrics and real-time information with users to provide workload insights.
• Engage with users to understand their specific technical needs.
• Contribute individually and through leadership and coordination of the above efforts.
• Set technical direction for the platform and own the software infrastructure for algo research.
