Dispensing Optician – Independent Practice

The Opportunity

A very exciting opportunity has become available for a Dispensing Optician to join a well-established family-run independent practice in Watford.

This is an opportunity to work somewhere that puts patient care and quality dispensing ahead of sales targets. There are no individual KPIs or targets to chase; instead, you’ll have the freedom to concentrate on giving patients the right advice and delivering the level of service you’d expect from a good independent practice.

You’ll be joining a friendly, collaborative team where everyone is happy to get involved and help across the practice.

The Role

This is a hands-on Dispensing Optician position offering plenty of variety and the opportunity to become an important part of the practice.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing high-quality dispensing across a range of prescriptions
• Advising patients on suitable frames, lenses and lens options
• Supporting more complex dispensing requirements
• Carrying out adjustments and spectacle repairs
• Getting involved with glazing and lab work where required
• Working closely with the Optometrists and wider team
• Helping with the smooth day-to-day running of the practice
• Maintaining excellent standards of patient care
• Taking on greater responsibility as you become established within the team

The original brief highlights dispensing, glazing and repairs as important parts of the position, alongside finding somebody capable of working independently when required.

They’re looking for a GOC-registered Dispensing Optician who combines strong optical knowledge with a genuinely patient-focused approach.

You’ll ideally be:

• A qualified and GOC-registered Dispensing Optician
• Confident dispensing across different prescription levels
• Comfortable dealing with more complex patient requirements
• Experienced in providing a high standard of customer service
• Mature, reliable and able to use your own initiative
• Comfortable working independently when required
• A genuine team player
• Interested in becoming a long-term part of an independent practice

Character and attitude are particularly important. The practice wants somebody with good ethics, a team mentality and the confidence to take responsibility when required.
