I am working with an established horticultural business looking for a Dispatch Supervisor to join its team. This is a great opportunity for someone with a strong knowledge of plants who wants to take on a varied role within a busy horticultural environment. While overseeing the preparation and dispatch of plants is a key part of the position, there is plenty of scope to make the role your own, with responsibilities shaped around your experience, strengths and the areas you enjoy most.
As Dispatch Supervisor, you'll play an important role in ensuring plants are prepared, checked and dispatched to customers in excellent condition. You'll help coordinate the team, maintain quality standards and ensure orders are accurate and ready to meet customer requirements.
The most important thing for this role is your knowledge of plants. Understanding different varieties, plant quality and how plants should be handled is essential to ensuring the right products reach customers in the right condition.
The role is also flexible and can develop depending on the experience you bring. There is scope to get involved in different areas of the operation, take on additional responsibilities and build a position around your interests and strengths. Whether you enjoy the hands‑on side of plant production, team leadership, quality or improving processes, there is an opportunity to develop the role in a direction that suits you.
Key responsibilities will include:
Overseeing the preparation, grading and dispatch of plants.
Ensuring plants are checked for quality, size, variety and condition before leaving the nursery.
Coordinating the movement of plants from growing areas through to dispatch.
Supporting and coordinating the team to ensure orders are completed accurately and on time.
Maintaining high standards of plant handling to protect quality and freshness.
Identifying and reporting damaged, diseased or unsuitable plants.
Helping maintain a safe, organised and efficient working environment.
Identifying opportunities to improve processes and contribute to other areas of the operation, depending on your experience and interests.
Plant knowledge is the priority. We're looking for someone who understands plants, recognises quality and appreciates the importance of handling and preparing them correctly.
You may already have experience in horticulture, plant production or nursery operations, or you could be working in another plant-focused role and looking for an opportunity to develop your responsibilities.
You’ll ideally have:
Good knowledge of plants, including varieties, quality and handling requirements.
Experience within horticulture, plant production, nursery operations or a related environment.
Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
The ability to coordinate work and manage competing priorities.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work well with others.
A practical, hands‑on approach and the willingness to get involved where needed.
Previous supervisory experience would be beneficial, but the business is open to someone with the right plant knowledge who is ready to take the next step.
Permanent, full-time position.
32 days' holiday, pro rata.
Weekly pay.
Overtime opportunities during peak periods.
Free on‑site parking.
Company events and a supportive team culture.
Training and development opportunities.
A varied role with the opportunity to shape your responsibilities around your experience and interests.
The chance to develop your career within an established, successful horticultural business.
As a seasonal business, workloads will vary throughout the year. Flexibility to work weekends during peak periods is required to support crop care, customer demand and order fulfilment.
If you have a good knowledge of plants and are looking for a role where you can use that experience, develop your skills and have a say in how your position evolves, I'd be keen to hear from you.
