Job summary

The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew is seeking a coordinated professional to manage the Discovery programme and ensure accessible learning opportunities, mainly for adults, while coordinating Kew’s Access Forum.

The role will involve strategic thinking about future development, weekend/evening work, Enhanced DBS, and options for home-based working; you'll help widen access for diverse visitors and contribute to the plant science mission at Kew.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of best practice around accessibility.
  • Experience developing informal learning sessions and resources.
  • Experience coordinating programmes and forums (Access Forum).

Job description

Join a friendly and creative team who are passionate about engaging under-represented communities with the wonder of Kew’s collections, science, heritage, horticulture and collections. This role will focus on coordination of the Discovery programme, which provides accessible learning opportunities, predominantly for adults. Through coordination of Kew’s Access Forum, you will also support increased accessibility to Kew Gardens for wider visitors.

The successful candidate will be joining the team at an exciting time, with the opportunity to think strategically about the future development of the programme.

This is a rewarding position for a flexible and collaborative individual. You will be passionate about providing nature-based activities for people with access requirements and have experience of project management and volunteer management. You will have knowledge of best practice around accessibility and experience of developing informal learning sessions and resources.

This post is subject to an Enhanced DBS check. The role will involve some weekend working and occasional evenings.

The position will be on a fixed term contract initially, but we anticipate that this will be extended, subject to confirmation of funding. The role is an established and important position at Kew.

First interviews will be on 2 and 3 November. Second interviews (if required) will be on 11 November.

This role is based at Kew with the option of regular home working, subject to operational requirements.

The salary for this position is£34,216 per annum [Band C]
