Job summary

OQC is seeking a Director of Quantum Error Correction in Reading to lead the scientific strategy for fault-tolerant quantum computing. You will build and inspire world-class QEC teams, shaping architectures, algorithms and hardware co-design that define the next generation of quantum computing.

You will drive strategy, oversee budgets and partnerships, and ensure research translates into practical demonstrations that advance our superconducting quantum hardware roadmap.

Qualifications

• Significant industrial and/or academic experience developing Quantum Error Correction technologies (bosonic, surface or LDPC codes).
• Proven leadership experience building and managing high‑performing technical or scientific teams.
• Experience delivering complex research programmes spanning quantum hardware, software and experimental physics.

Responsibilities

• Lead multidisciplinary QEC teams (Theorists, Architects, Quantum Engineers).
• Set strategic direction for QEC at OQC and translate research into practical demonstrations.
• Develop ambitious, executable research programmes across multiple technical teams.
• Partner with hardware, software and engineering teams to ground theory in experiments and accelerate product development.
• Represent OQC as a technical leader, presenting breakthroughs at conferences and to customers.
