Job summary

Relation in London seeks an Associate Director, Platform Engineering to lead the team responsible for the hybrid compute infrastructure and scientific compute environments that power Relation’s machine learning and drug discovery work. Reporting to the VP of Engineering, you will define and evolve Relation’s platform strategy.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in platform, infrastructure or DevOps engineering for complex production environments.
• Experience leading engineers, with responsibility for strategy through delivery and mentoring.
• Hands-on operational experience, on-call rotations and incident response.
• Deep expertise in Kubernetes across hybrid on-premises and cloud environments.
• Experience building, running or evolving MLOps infra, including notebook environments such as Kubeflow.
• Strong security fundamentals and ability to implement controls across multi-environment platforms.

Responsibilities

• Define and evolve Relation’s platform strategy with cross-functional teams.
• Own architectural strategy for Kubernetes-based clusters and broader hybrid infrastructure.
• Lead and develop the Platform Engineering team, setting expectations and growth paths.
• Oversee the scientific compute platform to meet ML/DS requirements.
• Advance CI/CD pipelines and developer tooling, treating the platform as a product.
• Establish observability, disaster recovery and security controls across environments.
• Communicate platform strategy to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
