Job summary

Relation, a London-based TechBio company, is seeking an Associate Director, Platform Engineering to lead the hybrid compute infrastructure and scientific compute environments powering its machine learning and drug discovery work.

You will define platform strategy, hire and develop the Platform Engineering team, and collaborate with Engineering, Data Science and ML peers to deliver robust, scalable infrastructure across on‑prem and cloud environments.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in platform, infrastructure or DevOps engineering.
• Experience leading engineers, formally or informally, with accountability for workstreams across strategy to delivery.
• Strong hands-on operational experience including on-call rotations and incident responses.
• Deep expertise in Kubernetes and hybrid on-premises and cloud environments.
• Experience building, running or evolving MLOps infrastructure including notebook environments such as Kubeflow and GPU compute.
• Familiarity with batch compute for data-intensive scientific workloads and reliable data pipelines.
• Track record maturing CI/CD pipelines and developer tooling across complex platforms.
• Strong security fundamentals and experience implementing security controls.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, capable of co-owning strategy with senior stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Define and evolve Relation’s platform strategy with Engineering and ML peers.
• Own architectural strategy for Kubernetes-based clusters and hybrid infrastructure.
• Lead and develop the Platform Engineering team, hiring and setting expectations.
• Own the scientific compute platform to support ML and data science needs.
• Advance CI/CD pipelines and developer tooling; treat platform as a product.
• Establish observability and disaster recovery across on-prem and cloud environments.
• Own platform security controls, IAM, secrets, network policy and vulnerability management.
