Job summary

AstraZeneca plc in Macclesfield seeks a Director – Process Safety to manage the Process Safety pillar at the site, providing director-level accountability for COMAH Lower Tier compliance, DSEAR, MAH prevention, and fire safety strategy.

You will act as the named senior voice for Process Safety at leadership teams and regulator-facing partner for HSE COMAH inspectorate, coordinating incident response, business continuity, and governance for SIMT and safety reporting.

Qualifications

• Degree qualified in chemical engineering, process safety, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Significant Process Safety leadership experience at COMAH sites.
• Regulator-facing credibility with HSE COMAH inspectorate.
• Strong working knowledge of UK Process Safety frameworks — COMAH, DSEAR, EU / UK chemicals regulations.
• Chartered status (IChemE Process Safety Engineer or equivalent).
• Track record of leading Process Safety programmes through the capital project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Own named director-level accountability for the campus COMAH Lower Tier programme including MAH risk management and safety reporting.
• Lead and develop the Process Safety team and 24/7 emergency coordinators coordinating response.
• Line-manage Emergency Coordinators with rota governance and on-call arrangements.
• Oversee COMAH inspection programme and Safety Report custodianship at Director level.
• Govern the Campus fire safety strategy with regulators and insurers.
• Sponsor SIMT exercises and post-incident learning workflows.
• Lead capital-project Process Safety integration (HAZOP/LOPA, SIL targets, asset lifecycle).
• Champion Process Safety culture across the Campus and cross-pillar collaboration.
