Fire Fighters Charity has been standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the UK’s fire services community for over 80 years, as a trusted source of health and wellbeing support. We provide timely healthcare, emotional wellbeing, and practical assistance to serving and retired firefighters, control staff, and their families – helping our fire family to live healthier, happier lives both during and after service.
In line with our strategic plan for 2024/25 to 2026/27, we are working to grow our reach and deepen impact, with the ambition to help tens of thousands more people across the UK. Our commitment is clear: to deliver high-quality, life-changing services while improving effectiveness, increasing income, building stronger partnerships, and creating an environment where every employee, volunteer, and service user feels valued, respected and accepted.
At the heart of our future success will be a focus on people, culture, and organisational development. The new Director of People & Learning will play a central role in making our charity an even more exceptional place to work and volunteer. You’ll lead all aspects of the charity’s People services, Learning and Development, and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) initiatives, while ensuring that the charity’s strategic priorities are underpinned by a high-performing, values-led, and inclusive culture. You’ll also take the lead in revitalising our learning offer, building career development pathways, and amplifying the impact of our 1,400-strong volunteer network – ensuring they are mobilised, supported and recognised as a vital part of our future.
Candidates will be strategic and collaborative senior leaders with a strong background across HR, organisational development, and people strategy. You’ll have a proven ability to drive change, foster engagement, and influence at all levels, including Board and Executive teams. Comfortable operating in a dynamic, purpose-driven environment, you will bring not only expertise, but a passion for people, wellbeing, and the unique contribution that the fire services community makes to society. Deeply aligned with the cCharity’s values of kindness, trust, equity, dynamism, clarity and professionalism, you’ll champion a culture where everyone can thrive.
