We know that achieving our ambitious goals depends on our people – and we’re looking for an experienced Director of People to lead us through this exciting phase of transformation and growth.

Reporting directly to the CEO, this is a pivotal leadership role where you’ll shape and deliver our People and Culture strategy, act as a trusted partner to our senior leadership, and oversee the full breadth of our people agenda – from strategic workforce planning and organisational development, to talent acquisition, digital transformation of people systems, culture change and embedding equity, diversity and inclusion at the heart of everything we do.

We are seeking a senior and credible People leader with a proven track record of delivering people and organisational development strategies at scale. You’ll bring deep experience of driving growth, leading culture change, building leadership capability and developing high-performing, inclusive teams. Strategic yet hands-on, you will thrive working in partnership with colleagues across the charity to ensure our people function empowers us to deliver our mission.

What we are looking for:

  • CIPD Level 5 – Undergraduate Level
  • Diploma in HR Management or
  • HR Development
  • Chartered Member of CIPD
  • Accredited coach
  • Significant senior-level HR leadership experience –ideally within a mission-driven organisation.
  • A proven track record of leading people and organisational development strategies that deliver impact and support growth.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of the practical application of UK employment law and best practice.
  • Expertise in developing and embedding culture change, employee engagement and workforce planning initiatives.
  • Experience of leading and motivating high-performing HR or People teams to deliver an excellent service across an organisation.
  • Effective team player who can also work autonomously.
  • Strategic thinking with the ability to translate vision into actionable plans.
  • Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills, with the credibility to build trust and drive change at all levels.
  • Excellent leadership skills with both practical and short/long term strategic vision; ability to build relationships and inspire confidence and respect at all levels.
  • Strong communicator – able to build rapport and demonstrate strong influencing, negotiation and listening skills
  • Skilled at using data, insight and organisational intelligence to inform decisions and evaluate impact.
  • High levels of emotional intelligence and political awareness.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present to senior stakeholders and external audiences.
  • Confident in managing complexity and ambiguity with resilience and clarity.
  • Passionate about creating inclusive, engaging and high-performing workplace cultures.
  • Values-driven and committed to the mission of the charity.
  • Collaborative, open and empowering leadership style, a strong team player.

Additional Information:

Ways of working: As part of our Agile ways of working you will be required to work approximately 2 days a week from the office, which is subject to the requirements of the role and the business needs. Flexibility on where you work can be split between working from home and our office.

Roles that are classed as part of the Agile ways of working are not able to claim any costs for Mileage/Travel on Public Transport, Accommodation and/or Meals. This includes when attending the office for various meetings/events.

Our Office: Our office is at 3 Riverside, Granta Park, Great Abington, Cambridge, CB21 6AD.

Salary: Competitive salary (dependent on experience) plus benefits
