We are currently recruiting for a new Director of the Pound Arts Trust.
Pound Arts is a thriving and dynamic organisation which has huge impact well beyond its local community in Corsham, and well beyond a traditional view of what an arts centre might offer, with a significant focus on using the arts and creativity to address social and environmental challenges. Much of this has been down to the vision and determination of our current Director.
As we hand over the baton to a new Director, we welcome the opportunity to work with someone who shares our passion for what we do, and who sees this role as an exciting opportunity to progress their career by shaping the next era of our development.
Whilst experience and track record are important, the most essential elements are the aptitude, vision and passion to make the arts a part of people’s lives.
Purpose:
The Director is the senior executive role within the organisation, working with the Board of Trustees to shape the organisation’s future direction and sustainability and leading the staff and volunteer team to deliver a creative programme that has an impact both at local and regional level.
Key Responsibilities:
·Artistic & business strategy: to develop, maintain and evaluate the organisation’s artistic and business strategy including its various development plans for audience development, marketing and learning & participation. This also includes the creation of and delivery of ACE NPO applications.
·Advocacy & audience development: to advocate for the organisation at local, regional and national level, building artistic, funding and business partnerships to further the organisation’s artistic and business strategy
·Leadership & delivery: to lead and manage the staff and volunteer team in the delivery of the organisation’s artistic and business strategy, including developing and executing policies and procedures to ensure effective governance
·Financial management: to manage the charity’s finances to ensure the organisation’s ongoing sustainability
·Fundraising & income generation: to take the lead role in attracting funds from grant making bodies and individuals and to maximise earnings from the organisation’s various income streams
·Operations Management: Overseeing the management of a busy grade II listed building, facilities, health and safety, IT and creating a welcoming, safe and inclusive environment for our community.

You are an experienced leader or senior manager in the arts sector, with a passion for creative and cultural events and enriching communities. You are excited about the opportunity to further develop the work and impact of Pound Arts. You will bring a broad range of skills and experience, which is likely to include many of those listed below.

Leadership Skills
·A strategic thinker with the ability to develop the organisation’s artistic and business strategy with vision
·Ability to manage people, including experience of managing both employees and volunteers
·Ability to communicate a creative vision and engage stakeholders to make it happen
·An inspiring leader with a willingness to play a hands-on part within a small team
Business & Operational Management Skills
·A track record in generating income from a variety of sources including public, philanthropic and commercial
·Strong organisational skills, the ability to manage a number of projects at the same time and to meet tight deadlines
·Ability to network and build partnership with people and organisations at local, regional and national level
·Experience of successfully managing significant budgets, ideally around £500,000 or more
·Excellent administrative skills including use of IT
·Experience of facilities management and Health & Safety compliance
·An understanding of safeguarding responsibilities
Personal Qualities
·Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (including excellent writing skills)
·Ability to empathise and engage with people from diverse backgrounds
·Decisive with the ability to make management decisions effectively and efficiently
·Ambitious tempered by pragmatism
·Commitment to diversity and inclusion and widening participation in the arts
·Tenacious, resilient and the willingness to challenge
·Ability to spot and develop opportunities in an entrepreneurial way
Sector Knowledge and Professional Experience
·A proven track record of delivery within the arts at managerial level
·An understanding and appreciation of the arts (including the wider public benefits of engagement with the arts)
·Ability to direct the programming of the organisation to ensure it offers a broad cultural offer
·An understanding of the charitable sector and the responsibilities of a board of trustees
·An understanding of outreach work in rural areas, including community and social impact
·An understanding of the latest developments in arts education and participation at all ages
This appointment is subject to an enhanced DBS check.
