Job summary

East Riding of Yorkshire Council seeks a Direct Payment Worker to support a young person with Autism in Beverley. This is an external vacancy not employment with the Council.

You will encourage engagement, support social skills, and help keep the individual safe in the community, with occasional travel to activities and appointments.

  • Must have use of own car, to transport individual to social activities

Job description

This is an external vacancy and is not employment with East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

8 hours term time and 14 hours in school holidays (2:1 staffing ratio).

About the recipient

The individual is male and resides in Beverley. They require a dedicated and suitable person to support them due their complex needs associated to their Autism diagnosis.

They like/enjoy:
  • Musical toys, especially instruments like a xylophone.
  • Looking at books and turning pages.
  • Bubbles and balloons.
  • Building blocks and sensory play (e.g. banging objects together)
  • Favourite shows/characters such as Mr Tumble and Flop (from Bing).
  • Playing outside, going to the park, and being active.
  • Familiar people and simple interaction games like hide and seek.
They don’t like:
  • Loud noises and bright lights.
  • Crowded or busy environments.
  • Hair care such as washing, brushing or cutting.
  • Dogs.
  • Walking long distances or unfamiliar places without his pushchair.

DBS/Reference checks will be required for this post - Cost to be met by the local authority.

Children and Young People, Specialist Services Direct Payments is an in-house service provided by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council to support families of Children and Young People with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities to fulfil their potential and aspirations.

Whilst caring experience is always useful, you don’t necessarily need to have worked in care to be a great Direct Payment Worker, the right attitude and a person-centred approach is more important.

Some travel across East Riding of Yorkshire may be required, applicants must be able to transport themselves.
