Job summary

The Diocese of Rochester is seeking a Stewardship Manager to help churches grow a culture of generosity and sustainable giving. Based at the Diocesan Office in Rochester with travel across the Diocese, this full-time role works with the Finance Director, archdeacons, clergy, and parish leaders to embed generous giving and fund ministry.

You will combine theological insight with financial acumen and strong communication to overcome barriers to generosity and equip parishes for mission.

Qualifications

• Significant fundraising experience, ideally in a Christian charity context.
• Experience with high-value donors and developing giving strategies.
• Understanding of theology and biblical principles of generosity and stewardship.
• Confident in teaching, preaching, and communicating about giving.
• Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills; able to motivate others.
• Strong finance understanding and ability to analyse giving trends and data.
• Highly organized with ability to manage multiple relationships and projects.
• Understanding of Church of England culture and traditions.
• A communicant member of the Church of England (or in communion with it).
• Willing to travel across the diocese, including evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of a culture of generosity and mutual support across the Diocese.
• Work with Finance Director, Archdeacons and colleagues to grow parish giving.
• Teach and speak in parishes, deaneries, and online gatherings on generosity.
• Encourage use of Parish Giving Scheme and other digital giving tools.
• Promote best practice through parish giving reviews and stewardship initiatives.
• Collaborate with Communications to promote generosity across media and resources.
• Support training for clergy and lay leaders on generosity and finances.
• Use data and financial trends to identify barriers and develop strategies.
• Contribute to diocesan strategy embedding generosity in planning.
• Create preaching and training resources to support local churches.
