Job description

About IOE

IOE is UCL Faculty of Education and Society.

Founded in 1902, IOE has been shaping policy and helping government, organisations and individuals navigate a changing society for the last 120 years. We embrace collaboration and excellence to create a future that is inclusive and just, and have been ranked number one for education every year since 2014 in the QS World University Rankings by Subject.

Centre for Educational Leadership (CEL)

The Centre for Educational Leadership is an established and distinctive centre within the IOE’s Department of Learning and Leadership with around 70 staff. CEL aims to be the first port of call for educational leadership and innovation in the UK and, increasingly, the world.

CEL’s research, teaching and knowledge transfer work reflects a commitment to applied academic rigour. It aims to:

  • Develop criticality: build evidence-based, theory-informed and innovative approaches to policy and practice
  • Deepen learning: broaden perspectives and forge connections between theory, policy and practice
  • Nurture collaboration: encourage shared thinking, collaboration within, across and beyond communities of learners
  • Activate knowledge: develop and mobilise knowledge and understanding within organisations and systems
  • Enhance equity: promote understanding about and action around equity and social justice

About the role

In this role, you will be responsible for leading all aspects of CEL’s Digital and Data Services that support our teacher and leadership development programmes delivered under contract to the DfE to over 35,000 education professionals each year in partnership with over 30 regional Delivery Partners.

You will lead the management of all professional participant data within CEL. This will include overseeing Delivery Partner service delivery and developing new requirements and service specifications.

Leading a team of around 4 that includes data, digital and marketing specialists and short-term IT contractors, you will ensure that our data and digital systems enable us to efficiently deliver services to participants and providers that meet UCL and DfE requirements. You will be responsible for managing (and recruiting) your team to deliver a high-quality service to participants, facilitators and partners working closely with CEL Programme Leaders, the Strategic Operations Manager and professional colleagues from across the delivery network.

This post is available until 31st July 2029 in the first instance.

Informal queries relating to the role can be directed to Rajia Sultana, Strategic Operations Manager -rajia.sultana@ucl.ac.uk

About you

You will have a first degree or equivalent professional experience and proven experience of successfully leading a team of technical and/or operational professionals — including line management, setting clear goals, supporting professional development, and enabling the team to deliver high-quality outcomes aligned with organisational priorities.

You will also have experience of leading large-scale and/or complex IT or digital projects, with a strong awareness of the associated challenges, such as system integration, stakeholder coordination, data governance, and change management.

Your application form should address all the person specification points and should clearly demonstrate how your skills and experience meet each of the criteria.

It is important that the criteria are clearly numbered and that you provide a response to each one.
