Job summary

Wokingham Borough Council is seeking a Digital Experience Designer on a full-time, 12-month fixed-term contract to help improve residents’ and staff’s digital experiences. You will combine content design with user-centred design across websites, intranet and online forms.

You’ll use research, data and user insight to design content, journeys and interactions that enable tasks to be completed simply and efficiently, while ensuring accessibility and branding across all digital services.

Qualifications

• Experience designing digital content with a user-centred approach.
• Experience with user research and usability testing.
• Strong information architecture and navigation design.
• Knowledge of WCAG accessibility standards.
• Collaborative with stakeholders in fast-paced environments.
• Proficiency with Figma or similar prototyping tools.
• Experience with Drupal or SharePoint CMS.
• Familiarity with GOV.UK Service Standard and Content Design guidance.

Responsibilities

• Create on-brand digital content using evidence, data and research to justify design decisions.
• Develop intuitive user journeys to improve usability and accessibility across digital channels.
• Act as gatekeeper for online content, ensuring brand, accessibility and usability guidelines.
• Oversee website content, databases, forms and self-service tools.
• Build relationships with stakeholders, test digital services, and gather user feedback.
• Contribute to style guides and provide support on digital guidelines and SEO.

We have an exciting opportunity available for a talented Digital Experience Designer with strong User Experience skills to join us as a key member of the Digital Experience team here at Wokingham Borough Council, on a full-time, 12-Month Fixed Term Contract.

We're looking for someone who can combine excellent content design with user-centred design to improve the experience of residents, businesses and staff across our digital services.

You’ll use research, data and user insight to understand what people need, then design content, journeys and interactions that help them complete tasks simply and efficiently.

You will work across websites, intranet, online forms and digital services, helping us deliver accessible, evidence-based and user-focused experiences.

Key Responsibilities:

• Create and deliver high-quality, on brand digital content - drawing on evidence, data and research to justify and inform design decisions
• Develop compelling content and intuitive user journeys that improve website usability and accessibility across our digital channels
• Act as a gatekeeper for online content, ensuring all digital outputs adhere to our guidelines and standards on brand, accessibility and usability.
• Oversee website content, databases, forms and self-service tools, maintaining consistency and quality across the board
• Build relationships with key stakeholders and engage in effective communication. Work in partnership to test digital services, gather user feedback and drive continuous improvement
• Contribute to the upholding and development of style guides and best practices. Provide support to internal users on digital guidelines, SEO best practices, and effective content creation techniques
