The Role

As a Diesel Gas Path Engineer, you will support the development of the engine / aftertreatment physical base system engineering. In this role, you will ensure functions adherence to the use of specified engineering methods, computer tools, and aids applied. You will also support vehicle, domain, and other indirect team members' understanding of the integrated propulsion functions.

Your responsibilities:

  1. Work on robust requirements and ensure targets are delivered on-cycle to programmes.
  2. Develop and update system artifacts (MBSE models, use case analysis, LAD, FFA/DFMEA/DRBFM, DVP, requirements, standards) off-cycle and on-cycle as required.
  3. Deliver new functions through statement of capability (SOC) and Feature statement of intent (FSOI) process.
  4. Identify, report, and resolve system compatibility issues efficiently.
  5. Chair technical reviews/forums and resolve complex cross-functional issues.
  6. Develop methods and conduct technical studies into future technologies.
  7. Analyze standard cycles like emission tests and identify and resolve emission-related issues.

Your Profile

Essential skills/knowledge/experience:

  1. Relevant experience in development of electrified propulsion systems such as MHEV, PHEV.
  2. Strong background in Emissions/Gas Path/Aftertreatment.
  3. Experience in emissions or base engine engineering with test bed experience.
  4. Understanding of integrating core systems like Aftertreatment and Gas Path.
  5. Hands-on experience calibrating diesel engines for emissions targets.
  6. Proven experience with emission calibration and regulatory understanding.
  7. Knowledge of ICE engine gas path chemistry.
  8. Calibration knowledge / sensor control.
  9. Experience with CAE on vehicle, propulsion, and sub-systems, including Simulink modeling.
  10. Experience in defining test cases and DoE for HIL, PIL, VIL, and vehicle environments.
  11. Full UK or equivalent driving license.
  12. Knowledge of 8D issue resolution and data statistics (6 sigma methods).
  13. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  14. Effective team player with strong interpersonal skills.
  15. Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or automotive engineering.
  16. Previous experience in emission calibration.
  17. Experience in powertrain systems engineering and Gas Path.
  18. Understanding of MHEV systems and calibration on different test cycles.
  19. CAE experience with vehicle and propulsion sub-systems, including Simulink.
  20. Specialization in Emissions, Aftertreatment, Gas-path, Base engines, HV Systems, Torque, and Energy Arbitration.
