The Role

As a Diesel Gas Path Engineer, you will support the development of the engine / aftertreatment physical base system engineering. You will ensure functions adhere to specified engineering methods, computer tools, and aids. You will also support vehicle, domain, and other indirect team members' understanding of the integrated propulsion functions.

Your responsibilities:

  • Work on robust requirements and ensure targets are delivered on-cycle to programmes.
  • Develop and update system artifacts (MBSE models, use case analysis, LAD, FFA/DFMEA/DRBFM, DVP, requirements, standards) off-cycle and on-cycle as required.
  • Deliver new functions via statement of capability (SOC) and Feature statement of intent (FSOI) process.
  • Identify, report, and resolve system compatibility issues efficiently.
  • Chair technical reviews/forums and resolve complex cross-functional issues.
  • Develop methods and conduct technical studies into future technologies.
  • Analyze standard cycles like emission test cycles and identify and resolve emission-related issues.

Your Profile

Essential skills/knowledge/experience:

  • Relevant experience in developing electrified propulsion systems such as MHEV, PHEV.
  • Strong background in Emissions/Gas Path/Aftertreatment.
  • Experience in emissions or base engine engineering with emissions knowledge, including test bed experience.
  • Understanding of the integration of core systems like Aftertreatment and Gas Path.
  • Hands-on experience calibrating diesel engines for emissions on dynos with emission targets.
  • Proven experience with emission calibration and regulatory understanding.
  • Knowledge of the gas path chemistry of ICE engines.
  • Calibration knowledge and sensor control understanding.
  • Experience with CAE on vehicles, propulsion, and sub-systems.
  • Experience in defining test cases and DoE for HIL, PIL, VIL, and vehicle environments.
  • Full UK or equivalent driving license.
  • Knowledge of 8D issue resolution and data statistics using Six Sigma methods.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective team player with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or automotive engineering.
  • Previous experience in emission calibration.
  • Experience working in powertrain systems engineering and Gas Path.
  • Understanding of MHEV systems and calibration across test cycles.
  • CAE experience with vehicle and propulsion subsystems, including Simulink modeling.
  • Experience in emissions, Aftertreatment, Gas Path, Base engines, HV Systems, Torque, and Energy Arbitration.
