Full time Vacancy 37.5 hours per week.

An opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Diabetes Specialist Nurse to join the In-Patient Diabetes Specialist Nurse team based within Manchester Royal Infirmary. This team is part of a larger team of speciality nurses, pharmacists, dietitians and consultants based in the Diabetes, Endocrinology, Metabolism centre in Peter Mount Building, at Manchester Royal Infirmary. The service delivers diabetes care across both the acute hospital, outpatient and community settings. We work closely with consultants, community nurses, GP and practice nurses as well as the antenatal services.

We provide specialist support and advice to people with Type 2 and Type 1 diabetes and diabetes in pregnancy. This includes a busy pump service and antenatal support.

You will be part of the In-patient team, providing expert clinical care and advice to ward based nursing and medical staff, patients and their carers. The role includes education of patients and professionals, along with opportunities for service development.

Main duties of the job

We require an experienced, motivated, dynamic nurse to join a friendly team of diabetes professionals in our Diabetes service. Effective communication skills are essential and being able to work both within a team environment and independently; organising and prioritising individual workload is crucial to this role. Experience managing diabetes care is essential as is a willingness to learn new skills appropriate to the post.

The post will be suitable for nurses working within a diabetes specialist area or with diabetes patients who may want to expand their skills, but would also be suitable for an experienced nurse who can demonstrate a strong interest in diabetes and is willing to develop their skills and knowledge in diabetes care.

The post holder must be able to demonstrate excellent clinical, communication and interpersonal skills in order to maintain the excellent standards of diabetes care our patients expect.

The role requires this professional to work within a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings and be able to provide on-site weekend cover on a rotational basis.
