Job Overview

We are Manchester and Trafford Local Care Organisation - a public sector organisation that is bringing together NHS community health services and social care services in the city. We aim to improve the health of local people in Manchester by working across organisational boundaries.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our innovative team of nurses in the IV team as Team Lead of one of our Vascular Access Services. We are looking for a highly skilled and conscientious practitioner to lead the vascular access service at the Manchester Royal Infirmary. The aim of the service is to provide timely access to a range of vascular access devices for patients and to provide training to staff to safely look after them. This will enhance the overall patient experience. The post holder will work collaboratively with other services to enable a standardised and integrated approach to vascular access across all MFT hospitals. Excellent communication skills are essential.

Main Duties of the Job

We are looking for a reliable, motivated, and experienced member of staff with experience in ultrasound-guided vascular access device placement including PICC and Midlines. You must also be proficient in managing other vascular access devices such as TIVAD. Experience in the use of fluoroscopy is desirable but not essential.

You must have a solution-focused personality and be able to work under pressure. Experience of managing/supervising junior nurses in practice is essential. You will be expected to take an active part in multidisciplinary team meetings and make joint decisions about patients with complex health needs.

Networking, data collection, and audit will be integral parts of your role, so you must have good IT skills. The post holder will support in the scoping and designing vascular access services that will work across the primary and secondary care interfaces for Manchester/Trafford registered patients. The role requires autonomous practice - assessing suitability of referrals, inserting devices, reviewing patients, auditing the service, and developing training and education packages for staff. Service development is an important component of this job.

Working for Our Organisation

MFT is one of the largest NHS Trusts in England with a turnover of £2.8bn. We’re creating an exceptional integrated health & social care system for the 1 million patients who rely on our services every year.
