Job summary

The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a dedicated nurse to cover a 12-month maternity secondment within the diabetes specialist team. You will work alongside consultant diabetologists to manage and educate patients with diabetes across the trust.

Challenging and rewarding role requiring recent diabetes-related nursing experience, leadership, and an ability to develop and implement service improvements in collaboration with the MDT.

Qualifications

• First level registration
• Evidence of undertaking a recognised course of study in teaching and assessing
• Educated to diploma level or demonstrate experience of operating at this level
• Evidence of professional development and regular study since qualification.
• Diabetes qualification - university accredited / willing to obtain
• Must have recent nursing experience as a senior staff nurse or above within a diabetic related environment
• Experience of regularly managing a team of staff and other resources during shifts, within the acute setting
• Experience of close liaison with members of multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Work as part of the diabetes specialist nursing team, supporting consultant diabetologists and the wider Trust staff in the management, care and education of the patient with diabetes.
• Be responsible for the assessment of diabetes patient care needs either at the front door or within the diabetes and endocrine centre. In addition, they are responsible for the development and implementation of service delivery in conjunction with multi-disciplinary team members, following agreed protocols and pathways.
• Participate and contribute in developing specialist diabetes teaching packages for patients, nursing and non-nursing staff.
• Support the Lead Nurse, Matron and Medical Head of Service in developing and monitoring diabetes services and the quality of care experienced by diabetic patients.
