As a DevOps engineer, you’ll be responsible for scaling our infrastructure and supporting the deployment of applications into various environments.

Security is a key requirement for Enigmatic Smile, so adherence to our PCI and ISO policies is mandatory for all requests and actions. You will work closely with our Cyber Security Manager to ensure our infrastructure remains secure.

Enigmatic Smile is a fintech scale-up with a distributed team based in Glasgow, Scotland. We serve customers worldwide, supporting diverse requirements through our platform. We aim to enable consumers, retailers, rewards publishers, and banks globally to enhance customer experience.

You should be confident in your expertise, know your limitations, and collaborate effectively with the team. A positive attitude towards work and confidence that your work will "just work" are important. Willingness to assist when things go wrong is appreciated, as technology can be unpredictable.

Our way of working

We are a distributed team, with primary engineering teams in the UK and Portugal. Our wider team spans most continents. Your daily team will be based in a European timezone (GMT +/- 2h). Our working language is English. This role is primarily remote, with occasional travel or office visits.

Requirements

Objectives of this role

  • Build and implement new development tools and infrastructure
  • Automate and improve development and release processes
  • Build infrastructure in AWS using technologies like Kafka, EKS, and Redshift, CloudWatch
  • Ensure systems are secure against cybersecurity threats, complying with PCI DSS Level 1 and ISO27001 policies
  • Identify technical problems and implement updates and fixes
  • Collaborate with developers to ensure proper development processes
  • Plan projects and contribute to project management decisions

Responsibilities

  • Deploy updates, provide Level 2 support
  • Build tools to reduce errors and enhance customer experience
  • Develop software for internal backend systems
  • Perform root cause analysis of production errors
  • Automate visualization using tools like Sentry and Grafana
  • Design procedures for troubleshooting and maintenance

Required skills and qualifications

  • Experience as a DevOps engineer or similar role
  • Strong Linux and containerization knowledge
  • Proficiency with Git and GitHub workflows
  • Knowledge of common programming languages and tools
  • Experience with databases (NoSQL/Document and SQL)
  • Problem-solving mindset
  • Team collaboration skills
  • Focus on security
