Job summary

Bond Williams is seeking a Development Scientist with a PhD in Biochemistry to drive assay development and protein workflow optimisation in a fast-growing proteomics setting.

You will design experiments, apply HPLC/FPLC and mass spectrometry to inform product development, troubleshoot assay performance, and collaborate across teams to integrate workflows and maintain rigorous documentation.

Qualifications

  • An advanced degree (MRes / PhD) in biochemistry or a related discipline, plus some industry experience ideally.
  • Experience with chromatographic techniques (e.g. HPLC/FPLC) for protein purification or characterisation.
  • Hands-on laboratory experience developing or optimising biological or enzymatic assays or workflows.
  • Strong experimental design skills, with the ability to generate clear, well-controlled data and draw sound conclusions.

Responsibilities

  • Design and execute experiments to develop and optimise biological and enzymatic assays, with a focus on robustness, scalability, and transferability.
  • Apply protein characterisation techniques – such as HPLC/FPLC, mass spectrometry, or related analytical methods – to inform and accelerate product development.
  • Troubleshoot and systematically improve performance, yield, robustness, and reproducibility.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure smooth integration of workflows into the wider platform
  • Maintain high standards of documentation in line with quality management systems
