Job summary

5 Star Recruitment seeks an Development Management Area Team Leader in Bromley to assist Senior Planning Managers in controlling development within planning law. You will prepare reports, make recommendations, and, when required, delegated decisions on planning applications on behalf of the Chief Planner.

You will lead and develop a high-performing team, oversee complex cases, and represent the council at Planning Committees and inquiries. Strong communication and leadership skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Experience of managing staff in a planning environment.
• Experience of running a heavy personal caseload and delivering reports to deadlines.
• Experience of advising staff, Members and the public on planning permission and likely outcomes.
• Experience of preparing and giving evidence at major planning inquiries.

Responsibilities

• Manage one of the Development Management teams on behalf of or under the direction of the Head of Development Management to ensure consistent practice and efficient workload discharge.
• Represent the Chief Planner at Planning Committees and advise Members on planning policy when required.
• Appear as an expert witness at Local inquiries on complex issues.
• Take decisions on planning applications and related matters under delegated powers.
• Produce planning applications reports for items of special or contentious nature.
• Undertake site visits relating to development proposals as necessary.
• Lead negotiations with planning applicants, developers, housing associations, legal colleagues and others on details of any application requiring a section 106 Agreement.
