With a strong pipeline of projects and a commitment to innovation and sustainability, they are seeking a talented Development Engineer to join their North West team.

The Role

This is a key technical position within the land and development team, where you’ll play a vital role in shaping and delivering engineering solutions that are both efficient and commercially sound.

You'll work closely with the land team to assess and de-risk potential sites before acquisition, providing technical input throughout the due diligence process. This includes reporting and strategies related to drainage, earthworks, retaining structures, foundations, and utilities, as well as support with estimating and procurement of groundwork packages. Your input will also be essential during planning stages, ensuring engineering strategies align with overall project goals.

Key responsibilities
  • Coordinate technical approvals to ensure sites are ready for development on schedule
  • Collaborate with the land team to ensure a smooth handover of technical information
  • Produce detailed site viability reports in line with residential development regulations
  • Review and assess technical drawings for accuracy and cost-effectiveness
  • Manage and liaise with external consultants to meet key deadlines
  • Secure all required engineering design and ground investigation approvals
  • Attend site and design meetings to resolve technical challenges
  • Engage with highways and planning authorities to determine technical requirements
  • Support tender processes and pre-construction engineering documentation
  • Stay up to date with and incorporate new regulatory requirements into project strategies
  • Manage procurement of site investigation data and advise on potential abnormal costs
  • Monitor the adoption process for infrastructure (roads, sewers, public open spaces)
  • Assist in recovering and reducing bond values at the earliest opportunity
  • Support the Engineering Manager in sourcing quotes from consultants
  • Provide ongoing technical guidance to site teams
  • Ensure all technical sign-offs are in place to meet project start dates
What they’re looking for
  • Strong background in residential development engineering
  • Solid understanding of highways and drainage design standards
  • Experience within a housebuilder or similar environment such as residential sub-contractor
  • Proven ability to lead engineering strategies within a team setting
  • Skilled in value engineering and cost evaluation
  • Confident in reviewing and directing the work of external consultants
  • Analytical mindset with good problem-solving skills
  • Familiar with managing budgets and forecasting abnormal costs
  • Civil Engineering qualification (HNC or above)
  • Proficient with software such as AutoCAD, PDS, and Microdrainage

  • Competitive salary (dependent on experience)
  • Company car or car allowance
  • Pension contribution
