Job summary

Phillips Medisize, a Molex company, is seeking an engineer to lead design and proof activities for smart inhalation and nebuliser systems. You will translate design inputs into specifications, develop prototypes, and drive verification and validation with cross-functional teams.

Join a device development department working with mechanical, electronics, software, and industrialisation teams. Office-based role with CAD tools, laboratories and external partners for testing and validation.

Qualifications

• Strong capability in problem analysis, feasibility planning and technical concept development.

Job description

You will lead the translation of design input requirements into design specifications, implementation and design proof for smart inhalation and nebuliser systems. You are responsible for ensuring that medical devices meet defined performance, safety and regulatory requirements through robust design, testing and verification activities.

Our Team

You’ll work within the Device Development Department alongside mechanical, electronics, software, industrialisation and programme teams. You will collaborate closely with external design contractors, component suppliers and specialist test partners (safety, electrical, aerosol). The role is primarily office‑based, supported by access to 3D printing, machine shop facilities, CAD tools and technical laboratories.

What You Will Do

• Technology concept development — Analyse problems, prepare solution proposals and plan/execute feasibility studies.
• Component definition — Define component requirements, select components and communicate with suppliers.
• Prototype development — Develop functional samples, design prototypes and optimise their performance through iterative testing.
• Design proof & testing — Plan, perform and document design testing to demonstrate design proof.
• Verification & validation — Create V&V plans and protocols, execute device verification and validation, and support software validation.
• Cross‑functional collaboration — Work closely with design and industrialisation teams to ensure smooth transfer of designs into manufacturing.
• External partner management — Coordinate with design contractors, component suppliers and test institutes.
• Documentation & reporting — Produce clear, compliant documentation across feasibility, design, testing and V&V activities.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

You bring strong engineering capability, problem‑solving skills and experience developing regulated medical devices.

• Degree in engineering or a related technical discipline.
• Experience in medical device development, ideally inhalation or nebuliser systems.
• Strong capability in problem analysis, feasibility planning and technical concept development.
• Experience defining component requirements, working with suppliers and developing functional prototypes.
• Knowledge of simulation methods, prototype testing and optimisation.
• Experience creating verification and validation plans, test protocols and reports.
• Understanding of software validation in regulated environments.
• Strong analytical thinking, structured problem‑solving and clear communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively within cross‑functional and matrix‑based teams.

• Recognised expertise in nebuliser or inhalation device development.
• Strong capability in feasibility study design, concept evaluation and early‑stage innovation.
• Experience managing external design contractors and component suppliers.
• Proven ability to lead prototype development, testing and optimisation.
• Deep understanding of V&V processes, including software validation.
• Ability to work across global teams and travel (~10%).
• Demonstrated creativity, continuous improvement mindset and proactive problem‑solving.
